As ever, having a good team makes theater possible. I have never “directed a musical” and this experience has made me realize that I can, if (as I know about every other kind of performance) I have a great team. Turns out, my attention to detail, dramaturgical vibes, and love of for real for real live performance is a good fit for musical theater. Pushing for the designers to work together to create an integrated design world and casting to be based on something deeper than impersonation has resulted in a truly beautiful show. Woo!
